Leading in the Energy Transition: The Future of Oil and Gas

With climate change ambitions declared by governments, finance, and the many global stakeholders at the UN’s COP26, pairing ambitions with action is what matters most in delivering on reducing greenhouse gases. I thought it relevant to focus on my own stomping grounds, that of North Texas, where the energy players are fast at work. This storyline was conceived before Engine No. 1 took Exxon to task. Since the writing of this in early August (and given print production’s time lag), Pioneer has pledged to be net zero, with a thoughtful plan to reduce carbon and methane emissions. Immediately, the prize ahead is reducing methane, while carbon emissions are being whittled down. Pioneer’s Scott Sheffield was ahead of the curve in leading oil and gas to the challenge. I believe the industry will deliver; they have to.

There is much more to say about all of this, and hopefully I can find a venue in which to do so…

Here’s the article from D CEO’s November energy edition, with an awards event and panel that I had the privilege of moderating, with panelists CEO Joe Foran of Matador Resources and EarthX Capital director Vikram Agrawal.
